The 2008 General Election in Burleson County!

Burleson County remained a bulwark of conservative values in the 2008 election.  Republicans won locally in 14 of the 15 contested races and were unopposed in an additional 4 elected offices. 

Below is the full list of Republicans running in the November 4, 2008 General Election in Burleson County, Texas.

 Dale was unopposed in the General election and was declared re-elected as Burleson County Sheriff.

David defeated Democrat W.J. Stracener by 1051 to 924 votes.

for District Attorney, 21st Judicial District

Bill Parham of Brenham was elected District Attorney, 21st Judicial District.

Bill defeated incumbent Democrat Renee Mueller by a District-wide vote of 7368 to 6664.

In Burleson County, Bill won 3,288 to 3,106 votes.


District Judge, 335th Judicial District

  from Caldwell, Texas is the incumbent  335th District Judge.  

Reva was unopposed in the General election and was declared re-elected as the 335th Judicial District Judge.


for State Representative - District 17

 from Lexington, Texas was elected State Representative for District 17.

Tim easily won over Democrat Donnie Dipple by a district-wide margin of  17,576 to 14,470.

In Burleson County, Tim was the landside winner 3,998 to 2,296.


for Justice, 10th Court of Appeals District - Place 2

Rex Davis of Woodway was elected Justice, 10th Court of Appeals, Place 2.

Rex received 64% of the votes in a landside win over Democrat R. Ferguson, 220,784 to 124,511.

In Burleson County, Rex won with almost the same landside margin with 3,992 to 2,306 votes.

Judge, Court from Criminal Appeals - Place 3

Winner!Tom Price from Richardson, Texas was re-elected as Judge of the Court of Criminal Appeals Place 3.

Statewide, Tom's margin was 3,940,954 to 3,477,426 over Democrat challenger Susan Strawn.

In Burleson County,  Tom won in landside proportions 3,780 to 2,349 votes.


Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals - Place 4

Winner!Paul Womak from Georgetown, Texas was easily re-elected Judge of the Court of Criminal Appeals Place 4.

Statewide, Paul's margin was 4,035,683 to 3,336,944 over Democrat challenger J.R. Molina.

In Burleson County, Paul won in landside proportions 3,950 to 2,168 votes.


Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals - Place 9

Winner!Cathy Cochran from Austin, Texas was re-elected Judge of the Court of Criminal Appeals Place 9.

Statewide, Cathy had a mandate margin of 82% of the vote: 4,709,086 to 1,041,499.

In Burleson County, her margin went to 88% with 4,309 to 576 votes.


Justice, Texas Supreme Court - Place 7

Winner!Dale Wainwright from Austin, Texas was easily re-elected Justice of the Texas Supreme Court Place 7.

Statewide, Dale received 3,917.286 votes to his Democrat challenger Sam Houston's 3,519,540.

In Burleson County, Dale received 59% of the voting, winning 3,767 to 2,392.


Justice, Texas Supreme Court - Place 8

Winner!Phil Johnson from Austin, Texas was easily re-elected Justice of the Texas Supreme Court Place 8.  

Statewide, Phil received 4,009,063 votes to Democrat challenger Linda Yanez's 3,424,159.

In Burleson County, Phil's margin was 61%, 3,881 to 2,275 votes.


Chief Justice, Texas Supreme Court

Winner! Wallace Jefferson from Austin, Texas was easily re-elected Chief Justice, Texas Supreme Court.  

Statewide, Wallace easily won with a 53% margin of 4,080,012 to 3,369,232 votes over his Democrat oponent Jim Jordan.

In Burleson County,  Wallace carried a 62% margin, 3,880 to 2,258 votes.


Texas Railroad Commissioner

Winner! Michael L. Williams  from Austin, Texas was re-elected Texas Railroad Commissioner.

Statewide Michael won over Democrat challenger Mark Thompson 3,989,705 to 3,401,028.

In Burleson County, Michael received strong support with 60% of the vote, 3,838 to 2,309.


National Offices

United States Congressman - District 10

Winner! Michael T. McCaul from Austin, Texas easily won re-election as U.S. Congressman for District 10.   (includes the Caldwell - Somerville area)

District wide Michael received 54% of the vote, defeating Democrat challenger L.J. Doherty 179,118 to 143,388 votes.

In Burleson County Michael received 61% of the vote, winning by 3,097 to 1,864 votes.


for United States Congressman - District 17

Rob Curnock from Waco, Texas could not upset long-time incumbent Democrat  Chet Edwards.   (District 17 includes the Snook area)

District wide, Rob polled 115,468 votes to Edwards 134,472.

In Burleson County,  Rob lost 647 to 751 votes.

United States Senator

John Cornyn from Austin, Texas was easily re-elected U.S. Senator.

Statewide, John recived 55% of the vote, easily winning over Democrat challenger R. Noriega 4,326,639 to 3,383,890 votes.

In Burleson County, John received landside approval with 67% of the vote: 4,376 to 2,003.

for President and Vice President of the United States of America

John McCain and Sarah Palin found Texas and Burleson County voting for them in strong proportions.   Unfortunately, they were unable to win the Electorial College.

Statewide, 55% of Texans voted for McCain-Palin over Democrats Obama-Biden: 4,467,748 to 3,521,164 votes.

Burleson County gave McCain-Palin a landside with 68% of the vote: 4,546 to 2,053.
