The Precincts

In the Republican Party, all things begin with the people.  Every voter is eligible to join the Republican Party.  Officially, one joins by voting in the Republican Primary elections to select the candidates that will run in the general elections.  All of these Republican voters are eligible to attend their Republican Precinct Convention which is held just after the Republican Primary Election polls close.

The Precinct Conventions are the fundamental, and in many ways the most powerful organizations within the Republican Party.  They are the doorway to all other aspects of the Republican Party.  If it doesn't happen in a precinct convention, it just doesn't happen!  Those Republican Party voters who attend the Precinct Convention do the following:

  • Propose resolutions about how the government should be conducted.  These are carried forward and become the "planks" of the County, State, and National Republican Convention platforms.  These higher conventions cannot originate resolutions ... they must come from the Precinct Conventions!
  • Elect their Precinct Chairperson
  • Fully participate and vote in the Burleson County Republican Convention and, if elected, be a delegate to the State or National Republican Conventions.  Burleson County will sent 17 delegates and alternates to the 2008 Texas State Convention in Houston.

In Burleson County, there are 15 voting precincts, each having its own Precinct Convention and Precinct Chairperson.  You can find your voting precinct number in the color area of your Voter's Registration Certificate (the box labeled "Prec. No.").

Our 15 precincts are listed in the following table:

* 1st Digit of Precinct shows which of the four County Commissioner's Precincts contains the Voting Precinct.

The Republican Election Judge also serves as the Precinct Election Judge during each general election in which a Republican is Governor of Texas.  Election Judges have legal responsibility and authority to conduct each election in accordance with the State of Texas laws.  If you have any problem at a voting location, they are the first person to contact.

To see how the Precincts are integrated into a common base, continue on to the County Republican Party organization page.
